Equality, Diversity & Rights
The Protected Characteristics classification highlighted within the Equality Act (2010) (Specific Duties) (Scotland) includes disability as a group. Every patient within the State Hospital is incorporated within this category.
Equality and diversity is embedded within all aspects of service delivery, adopting a person centred approach and promoting the key principles of Human Rights: to eliminate discrimination, to develop equality of opportunity, and to foster good relations.
Equality Impact Assessments are undertaken on all policies, services and functions. This ensures a proactive approach to mitigating potential health inequalities and highlights the needs of those with barriers to effective communication impacting on the recovery process.
Equality, Diversity & Rights training is mandatory for all staff.
Equality Outcomes, developed in collaboration with stakeholders, drive improvements supporting least restrictive practice, equity of access, promoting healthy lifestyle choices, and shared decision making. The suite of local Equality Outcomes are updated in accordance with national standards.
The organisation includes consideration of the Fairer Scotland Duty (2018) assessing potential inequalities of outcome caused by socio-economic disadvantage when making strategic decisions.
