Volunteer Visitor
About this Role
Due to the location of the Hospital, many of our patients live some distance away from family and friends. These patients are therefore limited to engaging in social interaction with staff and peers. Volunteer visitors support patients to maintain social skills, helping them to feel valued and part of a wider community. The purpose is to enhance the mental health and wellbeing of these patients by reducing social isolation.
Key Tasks
Be welcoming by talking to patients and making them feel at ease. Offer companionship to patients, chatting with them at visits and attending social events when appropriate.
Skills and Experience Required
- Communicate confidently in a friendly, sensitive, caring and calm manner.
- Observe boundaries and work confidentially.
- Have a non-judgemental attitude.
- Adopt an inclusive approach.
- Be reliable.

- Be committed to improving the patient experience.

Time Requirements
We ask volunteer visitors to commit to at least one visit session, of one hour, per month.
Potential volunteers will be risk assessed in accordance with volunteering guidance. All potential volunteers must complete the NHS Recruitment process which includes appropriate clearance from Disclosure Scotland, and satisfactory health & reference checks.
