Duty of Candour
The State Hospitals Board for Scotland is committed to providing safe, high‑quality care and to being open and honest when things go wrong. Under the Health (Tobacco, Nicotine etc. and Care) (Scotland) Act 2016 and the Duty of Candour Procedure Regulations 2018, we follow a clear process when an unexpected incident results in harm. This includes notifying those affected, offering an explanation and apology, reviewing what happened, and taking action to prevent it recurring. Our annual Duty of Candour report outlines how we meet these responsibilities and continue to promote a culture of openness and learning.
