Volunteer Spiritual & Pastoral Care Musician
About this Role
To facilitate music at our weekly Christian services of worship / Christian Fellowship Group and contribute to the ongoing development of the Spiritual and Pastoral Care Pathway.
Key Tasks
Choose hymns, songs, and instrumental pieces that align with the liturgical calendar, sermon themes, and the specific denomination’s traditions. Work closely with Chaplains and other staff to co-ordinate the music with other elements of the service. Lead or accompany hymns and songs, ensuring the congregation can follow along comfortably. Foster a sense of community among the musicians and within the congregation through music.
Skills and Experience Required
- High level of skill in playing one or more instruments (e.g., piano, organ, guitar, etc) often specific to the denomination’s worship style.
- Strong singing skills for leading congregational singing.
- Skills in planning music selections and co-ordinating with worship leaders and other musicians.
- Experience working as part of a team, especially in a worship or church setting.
- Previous experience in a similar role within a church or worship setting, understanding the specific traditions and expectations of denominational services.
- A personal commitment to the faith and denomination, often expected to reflect in both personal life and musical leadership.
- Dependable and consistent in attendance and performance as worship services require punctuality and regular participation.

Time Requirements
Our denominational services of worship take place between 9.30am and 2pm on a Wednesday. Musicians would be expected to take part in one day per month at the minimum.
Potential volunteers will be risk assessed in accordance with volunteering guidance. All potential volunteers must complete the NHS Recruitment process, which includes appropriate clearance from Disclosure Scotland, and satisfactory health & reference checks.
